No women allowed or old boys club

There were times in recent history when women were not allowed to enter boardrooms or even business meetings. Housewife was considered the only role for a woman to have. Among the dozens or even hundreds of activities women accomplished every day, they served dinner, maintained the family house, took care of the children, while the man’s job was to be the provider. Well, A lot has changed since then.

Women all over the world are working harder than ever to have the same rights as men. While the equality factor has changed tremendously there are still a lot of places, where only a handful of women can be noticed.

Strangely enough, one type of such places is real estate forums. Over the last couple of years I have been to a number of real estate investing events, and I notice a tremendous lack of women at these events. Don’t take me wrong; each of the real estate investing categories will be attended by a number of women. But the disparity is obvious, men to this day significantly outnumber women. “Why,” do you ask such disproportion? In my opinion the old notion still exists, and probably it has been preconceived and perpetuated by men and women alike. I believe that roles such as commercial broker, commercial real estate investor/syndicator, or financial underwriter are considered to be male-oriented professions, and women simply don’t pursue them.

I for one, love the planning, analysis and benefits of passive investing in real estate, and I jump at the chance to learn as much as I can about it. I think we, women of 21st Century, owe it to ourselves more than we did before to become better educated in fields that are considered male-focused, and to explore the opportunities within commercial real estate world.

The future is in our hands and we ought to change it for the better.
